About the Author

Nancy Wright Beasley started her journalism journey in 1979 as a state correspondent for The Richmond News Leader. She resigned in 1986 and worked in advertising and layout for a variety of publications in Southside Virginia.

Following several more years in economic development and public relations work, she ultimately settled in Richmond, Va., in 1994, launching a freelance writing career and becoming a columnist and contributing editor for Richmond Magazine in 1998. In 2000, Beasley earned a master's degree at the School of Mass Communications at Virginia Commonwealth University where she now teaches. The Virginia Press Women named her as their Communicator of Achievement in 2005.

The Richmond YWCA chose her as one of 10 Outstanding Women in Central Women in 2006. Beasley's first nonfiction book, Izzy's Fire: Finding Humanity in the Holocaust, was nominated for a People's Choice Award, competition sponsored by the James River Writers and the Library of Virginia. The book is now being taught in numerous schools and universities in several states.

The author lives in Richmond and is currently pursuing a master of fine arts degree in children's literature at Hollins University.
